IPPA to donate pork for governor's Outback Bowl wager
Posted Dec. 31, 2008

The Iowa Pork Producers Association will donate pork to two Iowa food banks as part of a wager between the governors of Iowa and South Carolina on the outcome of the Outback Bowl New Year’s Day.

The
University of Iowa meets the University of South Carolina in the bowl game and Iowa Gov. Chet Culver and South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford have made a friendly wager on who will win. Regardless of the outcome, local charities in both states will benefit.

“I have no doubt in our Iowa Hawkeyes, but this wager is a win-win no matter the outcome of the Outback Bowl,” Culver said in a statement. “While we are enjoying the success of our college football players on New Year’s Day, it’s also a chance to remember people in need, whether because of our national economy or our natural disasters, and give something back to help.”
