2013 Iowa Premier Pork Youth Ambassador

Breanna Branderhorst is a freshman at Iowa State University in Ames. She is pursuing a degree in agricultural and life sciences education with a minor in animal science. Breanna hopes to become a high school agriculture teacher and FFA advisor after graduation. She is the daughter of Bryan and Deb Branderhorst of Prairie City. Kendra Kehrli is a senior at East Buchanan High School. She plans to attend college and study animal science and nutrition or veterinary science next fall. She plans to start her own business in her degree area after college graduation. Kendra's parents are Ken and Kathy Kehrli of Winthrop in Buchanan County.            Emily Klootwyk is a student at Iowa State University in Ames. She is majoring in animal science with a minor in international agriculture and would like to stay in Iowa and work to improve the pork industry worldwide after graduation. Emily is from Knoxville in Marion  County and is the daughter of Brian and Kelly Klootwyk.

The Iowa Pork Producers Association invites you to join the Iowa Pork Youth Team and get involved in the Iowa pork industry! This is an excellent opportunity to:

  • learn about the Iowa pork industry and pork production
  • participate in pork educational and promotional programs
  • develop leadership skills
  • meet other Pork Youth Team participants across Iowa
The Iowa Pork Youth Team is open to all Iowa youth from 9th grade through age 20 who want to be involved in the pork industry.

Iowa Pork Youth Team Activities

Iowa Pork Youth Team members can participate in several activities throughout the year. Here is a list:

Iowa Pork Congress (January)
Learn about the latest in pork production and see the vast array of career opportunities in the pork industry. Participate in numerous activities including a Skill-a-thon Competition, a Trade Show Scavenger Hunt, pork educational seminars, and Iowa Pork Youth Team luncheon.

Pork Youth Conference (June)
Attend this two-day conference to learn about pertinent topics affecting pork production and career opportunities, polish communication and leadership skills, and meet new friends.

Iowa State Fair (August)
Join the fun and educate the public about pork and the pork industry at the IPPA sponsored Farrowing Display in the Swine Barn, Pork Booth in the Agriculture Building, and ever-popular Pork Tent.

Pork 101
Participate in a one-day workshop to learn more about pork production, to explore careers opportunities in the pork industry and to brush up on communication and presentation skills.

PEP (Pork Educational & Promotional Program)
Earn points for participating in pork educational & promotional activities at the local and state levels. Prizes will be awarded based on the number of points received. Click here for more details.

Iowa Premier Pork Youth Ambassador
Members of the Iowa Pork Youth Team, those in 12th grade to 20 years of age, are invited to compete in the Iowa Premier Pork Youth Ambassador competition. The competition will be held during the Iowa Pork Congress in Des Moines in January.
