The Master Seedstock Producer Award
Another major recognition program
was added in 1958 when "Iowa Master Seedstock Producers"
were recognized for the first time. The award was intended to
honor seedstock producers that have played a significant role
in the progress of purebred genetics in Iowa. The first class
of 1958 consisted of Wilbert Meinhart of Hudson, Wallace Lange
and Son of Brooklyn, and Bernard Weed and Sons of Ute.
Over the years, the Master Seedstock
Producer Award has gone to a virtual "Who's Who" in
Iowa purebred circles -- the Friedows of Kanawha, the Hirsches
of Indianola, the Stewarts of Waverly, the Eddie Brothers of
Storm Lake, the Conover Family, Curtiss of Churdan, the Olsons,
the Huinkers, the Christians and so many other distinguished
seedstock producers.
Including the 2006 Master Seedstock
Producer below, just over 100 such titles have been awarded in
the past forty-nine years. It
is a rare honor indeed. The Master Seedstock Producer award is
sponsored by the Iowa Purebred Swine Council.
