Producers in Humboldt County
took a different approach when planning their annual banquet.
Producers sent special invites to their local media, elected
officials, chamber of commerce members and county board of supervisors.
After the dinner, producers thanked them for their support and
began a short informative program about the changes the pork
industry has undergone and the economic contributions livestock
production makes to the local economy.
Speakers included Mike Meissen
with the Iowa Area Development Group, as well as a local contract
grower and an independent producer who talked about production
methods and marketing arrangements. A third producer talked about
environmental stewardship and nutrient management.
The IPPA assisted the county
through the Local Meeting Assistance Program, a service provided
by the Public Relations Committee. The IPPA assisted by developing
the invitations, creating handouts and other miscellaneous tasks.
Through the program, the IPPA shares the expenses by funding
50% or up to $1000, whichever comes first.
The IPPA is happy to assist
any producer, producer group or county organization with a similar
effort. For more information, contact the IPPA office at 800-372-7675.
