Pork All-American Award |
 |
| The Iowa Pork Producers Association and the Iowa
State University Extension Service has named a Pork All American
each year since 1970. The award was established to honor a young
pork producer who is recognized as a successful and dedicated
businessperson and a community leader. It's the highest honor
an individual pork producer can receive! The recipient must be
an IPPA Master Pork Producer and under the age of 40. |

Introducing
2006 Pork All-American Award Winner

Brian Monaghan |

One year after being named Master
Pork Producer, Brian has now taken the industry's highest honor.
He has helped feed the world by raising hogs for the past 18
years in rural Masonville.
Monaghan, who is PQA certified,
manages a 350-sow farrow-to-finish operation. He farrowed 758
litters last year, averaging 9.7 weaned pigs per litter. Brian
marketed 7,064 hogs in 2005 on a grade and yield basis. In addition
to the pork operation, he also farms 500 acres of corn.
A member of
the Buchanan County Pork Producers, Monaghan has been a board
member and past president and he's served for six years on the
Ryan Co-op Board of Directors. He's a member of St. Patrick's
Church and serves on the SIAC Committee for the local school
district.
Brian and his
wife, Bridgette, have three children: Morgan, 12; Brenna, nine
and Claire, six.
Monaghan is one of the up and
coming leaders in the pork industry and he represents a young
generation of active pork producers who are prepared to meet
today's challenges as well as those of the future.
The IPPA Pork All-American award
winners are honored every January as part of the Iowa Pork Congress
in Des Moines.
