Winter pork picnic treats consumers to pork lunch

Grill outside in Januaryin Iowa? You bet.
Thanks to a group of pork producers in town for the Iowa Pork
Congress, Des Moines area consumers were treated to grilled pork
burgers during the annual Winter Pork Picnic.
Over 2800 consumers enjoyed a picnic lunch
of ground pork and bacon burgers, chips, pop and ice cream at
this year's picnic. While eating their lunch, attendees were entertained
by a live remote from Des Moines' Star 102.5 Radio.
"The Winter Pork Picnic is a great way
for us to showcase pork to the general public while celebrating
the Iowa Pork Congress, which brings over 5000 pork producers
to Des Moines," said Sam Carney, IPPA Promotion Committee
chair.
Carney also mentioned that the promotion wouldn't
happen without the help of numerous pork producers and the county
queens who were in town for the Iowa Pork Queen Contest. "Also,
I want to extend a special thanks to the Tama County Pork Producers
who grill for this annual event," said Carney.
Companies participating in this year's Winter
Pork Picnic were Fareway Stores, Webster City Custom Meats, Cookies
Food Products, Old Dutch Potato Chips, Pepsi Americas, Sara Lee
Bakery and Wells Blue Bunny.
