Mike is the owner and operator of a 600 sow, farrow-to-wean operation near Winthrop in Buchanan County. Last year, Mike managed the farrowing of 1352 pig litters with an average of 9.6 weaned per litter. He maintains his records using Pigchamp and United Feeds recordkeeping systems. Also included in the farm business are 330 acres of corn and 180 acres of soybeans, plus an additional 1100 acres he farms with his brother. Mike was a 2002 IPPA Master Pork Producer.

Mike is an active member of the Buchanan County Pork Producers, serving as president and as a delegate to the IPPA Annual Meeting. Mike currently serves on the IPPA Restaurant and Foodservice Committee. He has also held the position of president of his parish council.

He and his wife, Tina, have three children, Emily, 13, Nathan, 11, and Sarah, 3.
The IPPA Pork All-American is honored each year during the Iowa Pork Congress in Des Moines. The IPPA Pork All-American program is coordinated by ISU Extension and the IPPA and is funded by the Pork Checkoff.
