Orly's Meat Market Locker and Deli, and Our Family Farms Naturally Tender Pork have taken home the honors for having the best new Iowa pork product in 2003 in the categories of foodservice and retail products.

"This award focuses on encouraging companies based in the state of Iowa to develop pork products for use in retail grocery stores and foodservice operations," said Sean Dolan, Chair of the IPPA New Products Committee. "We want to help new pork products get a foot in the door and keep them visible in front of consumers."

Orly's Meat Market Locker and Deli, Inc. from Clarksville won the foodservice division for its Chili-Cheese Dog. The product is a large hot dog with the chili beans, cheese and chili powder seasoning pre-combined within the hot dog.

Our Family Farms Naturally Tender Pork from Hubbard won the retail division for its Meaty Pork Stick. The product is a shelf stable meat stick made to compete with products that are primarily beef.

The products entered in the IPPA New Product Award competition are judged on taste, innovation, availability, packaging, branding and meeting the needs of end-users. "This program has been successful in bringing pork to the forefront for processors," said Dolan. "Iowa should be leading the nation in new pork products to offer to consumers."
