"Entries were judged
throughout the summer months by over 40 different pork producers
from all corners of Iowa," said Nelda Christian, Chair of
the IPPA Restaurant and Foodservice Committee. "We had a
tremendous response and are ecstatic that restaurants are doing
their part to support local producers by menuing pork items year-round."
The contest was advertised in May and nominees
were judged from July through October. Eight finalists were visited
by committee members who judged the tenderloins on taste, physical
characteristics and appearance.
Rookies Bar and Grill in North Liberty was
awarded second place honors. The Elm's Club in Creston, Perry
Bowl in Perry and the Viking Lake Restaurant in Stanton each
received Honorable Mention. As the winner of the contest, Darrell's
Place will receive $200 and a plaque to display in the restaurant.
Funded by the Pork Checkoff, the IPPA Restaurant
and Foodservice Committee works to increase demand for pork by
sponsoring local, state and national restaurant competitions,
culinary workshops and restaurant promotions throughout Iowa
and the Midwest.
