Pork Checkoff Programs and Stories

Cassidy Greiman, daughter of Chris and Soo Greiman of Waterloo, Iowa and Brooke Albertsen, daughter of Frank and Becky Albertsen of Toledo, were recently crowned 2005 Iowa Pork Queen and Princess, respectively, during the Iowa Pork Congress.

Cassidy Greiman is a student at Iowa State University majoring in agricultural studies. This past year, she represented the Black Hawk County Pork Producers as county queen, promoting pork in area retail stores and at various consumer events, including local parades and schools.

Currently, Greiman is active in the ISU Block and Bridle Club and ISU Rodeo Club, and she continues to work on her family's farm in Black Hawk county. Previously, Greiman has served as president of the Black Hawk County 4-H Council, Lincoln Links 4-H Club and Hudson FFA Chapter.

Brooke Albertsen is a senior at South Tama Community High School. She plans to attend ISU and major in public service and administration with a pre-law minor. She represented the Tama County Pork Producers as their county queen this past year.

Seventeen county pork queens competed for the title of the 2005 Iowa Pork Queen. The judging consisted of a personal interview, mock media interviews, a speech presentation and review of their knowledge of pork production and current issues.

Greiman and Albertsen will serve as ambassadors for the Iowa pork industry during their year-long reign, assisting the state association and their county pork producer groups with promotional and educational activities.

Held during the Iowa Pork Congress, the Iowa Pork Queen Contest is coordinated by the Queens Committee of the Iowa Pork Producers Association and is funded by pork producers through the Pork Checkoff.
