WE NEED YOUTH MENTORS!

Hello Iowa State Fair Swine Exhibitor,

The Iowa Pork Producers Association is teaming up with the Iowa State Fair and Special Olympics Iowa to host a pig show for individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities. It’s known as Bacon Buddies and will take place during the Iowa State Fair on Aug. 13, 2022.

We are seeking youth mentors to assist the Special Olympics athletes, known as Buddies. Each Buddy will be paired with two youth mentors, which will be selected by the Bacon Buddies Committee. Youth mentors will assist the Buddies with getting the pig to the show ring, in the show ring (as needed), and returning the pig to its pen.

This will be a memorable and rewarding experience for all participants involved! Youth Mentor applications are due July 8, 2022. Please read below for more details and follow the steps to apply.

DATE/TIME:

6:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 13, 2022

Mentors arrive arrive by TBD p.m. and stay until show concludes at 7:30 p.m.

YOUTH MENTOR INFO: 

• Must be age 12 or older and enrolled in a 4-H or FFA Swine Project.
• 32 mentors will be selected and paired with 16 buddies.
• All participants will receive a Bacon Buddies T-shirt and complimentary Iowa Pork Tent meal voucher.
• More information, including a schedule, will be sent to selected youth mentors.
