The eighth annual Swine Spectacular—originally set for late February—has been rescheduled for Sunday, April 25, 2021, at the Boone County Fairgrounds in Boone.

NOTE: Unlike past years, NO SWINE JUDGING is planned.

Swine Spectacular is an annual pork education event for youth ages 8 to 18. Each participant will receive a free T-shirt and compete throughout the morning to win various prizes.

Attendees can earn points in the following ways:

  • photo and essay entries (optional, due for judging prior to the event). Guidelines below.
  • a skill-a-thon.
  • a written test.
  • Animal U workshops (optional, to be completed prior to the event). Guidelines and tracking sheets below.

Points are tallied up—the five youth with the most points in each division (junior, intermediate and senior) are notified, and they will then prepare for a recorded media interview, when a judge will ask them to respond to two on-the-spot questions related the the pork industry. Awards will follow the media interviews.

Swine Spectacular will begin at 8 a.m. and is being held in conjunction with a hog show that Iowa State University’s Block & Bridal Club is sanctioning with the Iowa Swine Jackpot Series.
