The U.S. Food and Drug Administration will implement the Veterinary Feed Directive (VFD) on Jan. 1, 2017. The VFD implements new rules regarding the use of medically important antibiotics in livestock.

The rules will require a written statement from a veterinarian for feed-additive antibiotics. In addition, all water-based antibiotics will become prescription medications.

The VFD will impact Iowa pig farmers, as well as your veterinarian and feed providers. Are you prepared?
Refer to these VFD Frequently asked Questions to make your transition to the new rules a smooth one.
