Mike Ver Steeg and Family:

A Tradition of Caring for Pigs and the Environment

Mike Ver Steeg is a fourth-generation farmer near Inwood, Iowa, where he raises pigs for Prestige Pork alongside his son Cody and cousin Nathan. Mike grew up farming, learning from his father and grandfather. Following his studies at Iowa State, Mike returned home to continue the family tradition. At Prestige Pork, pigs come first, with daily hands-on care, science-based nutrition and modern technology guiding every decision. Mike is deeply committed to sustainability, using conservation practices that protect soil and water while supporting the future of Iowa farming.

Each day begins with checking every pig, ensuring they have clean water, nutritious feed and a comfortable environment so they can grow healthy and strong.

Protecting Iowa’s Soil and Water

Mike, winner of the 2024 Iowa Pork Industry Environmental Steward Award, combines conservation practices, manure management and crop rotation to protect soil and water, keeping his farm productive and sustainable for generations to come.

Mike has spent decades farming alongside his father, and now works side by side with his son, carrying forward a family tradition built on trust, hard work and shared purpose.
